A Day in the Life of a Mt Laurel Resident

A Day in the Life of a Mt Laurel Resident

As the first rays of sunlight peek above Double Oak Mountain, the Town of Mt Laurel awakens. Step outdoors and you’ll see residents sipping coffee on their front porches, walking pets to the community dog park, or going for a run along the town’s broad sidewalks. With every community, there’s a life that courses through it. And at Mt Laurel, it’s a life lived more fully. If you’ve ever wondered what an average day here looks like, we invite you spend a fictional “day in the life” with us. But of course, words can hardly do it justice. Visit our community, and you’ll see for yourself.

Breakfast at Jimbo’s Soda Fountain

Every morning, you can find Mt Laurel residents congregating at Jimbo’s Soda Fountain for a delicious breakfast. Walls adorned with vintage signs from the 50s and 60s contribute to the restaurant’s old-fashioned ambiance, as well as the friendly service from owner Jim Landreth.  Grab a menu and a cup of coffee, and order from wide selection of items, including pancakes, waffles, hash browns, grits, and sausage, gravy, or bacon, egg, and cheese biscuits. From 6:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. every day, Jimbo’s serves breakfast menu items—but don’t miss out on their lunch if you can help it.

Walk to Nearby Elementary Schools

After a hardy breakfast at Jimbo’s, it’s time for school. Stroll down Olmsted Street on a school morning, and you’ll see parents walking hand-in-hand with their children to nearby Hilltop Montessori and Mt Laurel Elementary schools. These exceptional Birmingham schools offer the best education in the area. Here, children spend the day growing vegetable gardens, immersing themselves in technology, and learning foreign languages. The close proximity of schools to residents’ homes fosters a strong sense of community, creating an environment that allows parents to be part of their children’s education.

Spend the Day in the Town Center

With the children at school, the day is open to numerous possibilities in the Mt Laurel Town Center. A few of our residents work and own businesses in here, while others appreciate the opportunity to shop or hike nearby trails. Pick out a cute outfit at Blissful Boutique, or find something for your little ones at Favorite Laundry Children’s Clothing. Drop the dog off for quick trim at Lucky Dog Grooming & Boutique, and make an appointment for yourself at Pure Bliss Salon Spa. For lunch, grab a few essentials at the Mt Laurel Grocery, or join friends at The TownHouse Tea Shoppe for sandwiches, soup, and salad, or the buffet. With a doctor’s office, pharmacy, dentistry, grocery, and dry cleaner’s all available in the Town Center, it’s easy to tackle your to-do list without leaving Mt Laurel.

Dinner at Local Restaurants

Once everyone’s home and hungry for dinner, simply walk to the Town Center and enjoy a host of restaurant options. Want a traditional Southern meal? Mr. Harry’s Chickin De-Lux, created by Jim ‘N Nick’s co-founder Nick Pihakis, serves hot chicken, an Alabama catfish platter, and the Oxford, Miss, inspired chicken-on-a-stick. For pizza, calzones, or pasta, stop in to Area 41 Pizza Company. Their signature pizzas are the best around, and the build-your-own is perfect for picky eaters. A few doors down, The Red Shamrock is a game-day favorite, with a menu that includes burgers, buffalo wings, fish and chips, and a large selection of beers on tap. And at Shiki Sakura, get delicious Asian cuisine with their long list of sushi rolls, hibachi dishes, and Chinese foods. It’s a rare treat for one town to host so many original Birmingham restaurants, but at Mt Laurel, its only part of why we’re so unique.

Evening Spent at Home

With dinner complete, your family can walk home along well-lit sidewalks, covered by beautiful indigenous trees. On a warm night, spend the evening chatting with family and friends on your wide Southern-style front porch, or gather together in the spacious living room for dessert and games. Built with quality and character, Mt Laurel homes are made for moments like these. We create inheritable homes, where your family can live for generations, soaking up time spent together in a community that stands the test of time.
