Jim ‘N Nicks Founder, Nick Pihakis, Finds Dream Community in Mt Laurel

It was love at first site, literally. After catering to the brand-new community in 2000, Nick Pihakis, founder of Jim ‘N Nicks BBQ, brought his wife back within the same day to put a contract on their first house. Nick and his wife, Suzanne, were among Mt Laurel’s first residents, and have watched it grow into the beautiful small town it is today. Part of that growth included the couple’s daughter Catherine and Suzanne’s parents, Ward and Ann, who decided to make their home in Mt Laurel after experiencing the town’s charm for themselves. With three generations living in Mt Laurel, the Pihakis family has truly found their home within the community.

“I couldn’t believe how beautiful Mt Laurel was,” said Pihakis. Master planned in concert with nature, Mt Laurel is renowned for its stunning, classic architecture and gorgeous natural scenery. Indigenous trees are preserved and replanted as part of Mt Laurel’s commitment to being a sustainable community.

Mt Laurel’s Town Center creates a “small town community feel” Pihakis and his family loves, with a grocery store, dentist office, dog grooming boutique, pharmacy, and much more, all within walking distance. Pihakis loves the spot so much, that he even decided to locate his newest restaurant here, Mr. Harry’s Chickin De-Lux. From the Blissful Boutique, a women’s clothing store, to Simply Infused, an olive oil and balsamic tasting room, all of Mt Laurel’s businesses are focused on offering unmatched customer service and establishing a friendly atmosphere that’s only found in small towns. The Town Center also serves as a scenic backdrop for Birmingham events and town festivals, which are held throughout the year.

With so many unique ways to get involved in the community, the Pihakis family enjoys getting to know their neighbors. “We see a lot of familiar faces, and everyone here is very friendly,” said Pihakis.

From miles of hiking paths and numerous parks to the community gardening and book clubs, residents find numerous ways to meet people with shared interests. One of the town’s favorites for outdoor fun is the Olmsted Park Swimming Pool, which includes abundant seating, convenient restrooms, a kiddie pool, and a nearby playground—making it the ideal gathering place for families and friends.

The small town feel only enhances the charm of Mt Laurel’s homes. From custom-built to inspired design plans, Mt Laurel builds homes that are rich architecture and desirable features. “We really love the original house styles and the outdoor spaces,” says Pihakis, who built his own custom home in Mt Laurel. Even though Mt Laurel is considered new construction, Pihakis says “when you walk in, it doesn’t feel like a brand new home, it’s warm and rich.” Having countless custom options available, Mt Laurel provides homes that are far from cookie-cutter.
