A Spirit of Community at Double Oak Community Church

Couples leisurely stroll down Olmstead Street on a breezy Sunday morning, waving hello to neighbors as children run to greet each other outside the doors of Double Oak Community Church. Inside, community groups share the week’s events, bonding over hardships and joys with friends who are journeying through the same season of life. The spirit of fellowship lingers as families join for lunch at nearby restaurants in Mt Laurel’s town center, chatting for hours about upcoming birthday parties and school events. This community-centric atmosphere characterizes the congregation of Double Oak Community Church—an emphasis that’s at the heart of the church’s mission.

“Community is naturally attractive,” says Senior Pastor Adam Robinson. “People crave belongingness, especially today as social media works to isolate us from one other. At Double Oak Community Church, connectedness comes in many forms.” From age-specific community groups to mission trips, the church fosters togetherness through worship and service.

Despite the “small-town” feel of Double Oak Community Church, the congregation of 1,100 members continues to grow as churchgoers invite friends to join this unique group of believers. Now, the church’s outreach encompasses surrounding Birmingham and Shelby County areas, with several upcoming events planned to increase membership this summer and fall.

“We aim to give back to the Mt Laurel community through yearly events, such as Music in the Park and Trunk-or-Treat,” says Robinson. “At these gatherings, we don’t preach or evangelize. We simply invite people to come together.” Other upcoming church activities include Vacation Bible School (June 8-12), WinShape Camp (July 20-24), and the annual church picnic (Sept. 13). Regular services are offered on Sundays at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
